Because some habits you wouldn’t even consider healthy – even those you think are healthy – along with silently and insidiously progressing insulin resistance, an unhappy and anxious relationship, marriage, or work life, can gradually lead to memory loss from a young age, and ultimately, dementia.

A sport you do to be happier and healthier, any heart disease you haven’t yet had or may have in the future, excessive body fat, people you are forced to interact with, an object you touch or that comes into contact with your body every day, the chemical compounds in every breath you take, even the city you live in, can all contribute to dementia.

Your brain is constantly changing. But is it getting better… or worse? Are you generally hopeless and unhappy? Do you see life as meaningful and exhilarating, or as routine, ordinary, and worthless, with each day being the same as the last?

I’m not just talking about your biological age or your genes… No, a lot of it is about what you do today, how you are psychologically, what you eat, even how you sleep, what you look at most during the day, how much you exercise, and things like that.

Because dementia isn’t something that happens suddenly, out of nowhere.

It’s something that develops slowly, quietly, like an innocent habit every day…

In this article, I’ll discuss ten habits that damage your brain and silently accelerate dementia. And coming up number one, type three diabetes.

1- TYPE 3 DIABETES (the worst-case scenario)

As a physician, I view and categorize Alzheimer’s dementia as a metabolic disease. This is because there is a very close link between metabolic diseases and Alzheimer’s dementia…

And guess what’s at the heart of it all? Sugar, of course. But there’s so much more to it. It’s the excessive consumption of sugar and processed foods that often go hand in hand. And because they’re so addictive and these foods are devoid of nutritional value, we tend to overeat. Certain psychological states we’re in also trigger this. And at the heart of it all is sugar. And whenever we overeat, after a while, we develop insulin resistance, a metabolic disease. And there are several different mechanisms. First, when the brain, along with the rest of the body, becomes insulin resistant, there can be too much blood sugar floating in the bloodstream. But because the cells are insulin resistant, they can’t use that blood sugar.

So, in essence, by providing abundance, we are gradually starving the brain.

Another type is Advanced Glycation End Products, or AGEs. These cross-link with glucose and proteins, creating harmful molecules that shouldn’t be there and causing serious damage to brain tissue.

With insulin resistance, we are prone to developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and visceral fat accumulation. And when the liver becomes very fatty and insulin-resistant, it then produces more cytokines, more inflammatory messengers.

The chain of disasters begins here. Because they enter the bloodstream and cross the blood-brain barrier…

Thus, we also increase neuroinflammation and cause damage in this way. I would also like to point out that the primary trigger for fatty liver disease is fructose in sugar. And consequently, fatty liver disease equals hippocampal damage…

And the hippocampus is a very important structure in the brain, part of the limbic system.

2- LOW-FAT DIETS (cutting off the branch we’re sitting on)

Cholesterol is also a precursor to hormones.

So all of our steroid hormones, such as cortisol, testosterone, and estrogen, use cholesterol as a raw material; but some neurosteroids, some of the hormones the brain uses for internal communication, are also made from cholesterol.

While the body has the ability to produce some cholesterol when the diet is low, there’s still a high chance it won’t be enough. And the production of some of these brain components can be disrupted.

So, when people have a fat phobia and deliberately try to reduce their fat intake, what happens is they go on a low-fat diet and end up eating more of something else, which is typically carbohydrates. Remember that some vegetables known to be very healthy contain a significant amount of carbohydrates.

3- GRAIN CONSUMPTION (bodies sagging like parchment paper)

One of the reasons we have an epidemic of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic diseases is that diet programs, which should be personalized, are written for everyone. For example, consuming the wrong grains at the wrong time can dramatically increase blood sugar, even leading to leaky gut syndrome, a very dangerous and potentially fatal disease, and the brain is the most affected by all of this.

Grains will certainly trigger one of the things that can lead to dementia: insulin resistance; because, I need to emphasize again, grains raise blood sugar dramatically and are high in carbohydrates.

But another factor we need to consider for the brain is that grains contain gluten and lectins, especially wheat. And these two molecules in wheat will break down. They will break down the tight junctions in your gut… So there’s a critical lining in your gut that has to very, very selectively let these things pass. And if we damage those junctions now, all sorts of things that shouldn’t pass can pass. That’s called leaky gut or permeable gut. What’s happening now is, we have some bacteria that produce things like lipopolysaccharides, which are little pieces of bacteria, and these are now leaking through this leaky gut and getting into the bloodstream.

And once they enter the bloodstream, they can be small enough to cross the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain. And these LPSs are very irritating.

They stimulate our immune system to react and produce inflammation. This, of course, leads to neuroinflammation in the brain. And this is just one example.

With LPSs, we should remember this… There’s a saying: “A leaky gut means a leaky brain.” In other words, if we have a gut problem, there are several mechanisms that can lead to a brain problem.

4- HIGH OMEGA-6 LOAD (learned ignorance and harmful diplomas)

In the blood of a 70-year-old patient who was facing advanced dementia and many other chronic illnesses and had been left untreated for months, I found extremely alarming data that shouldn’t have been there. Some doctors, regardless of their title, fame, or television personality, possessing learned ignorance and lacking formal medical training, can easily perform procedures that will ruin your life.

And once a certain threshold is crossed, there is no turning back…

This situation is similar to a Ponzi scheme.

Another major trap is the high concentration of Omega-6 and DHA hidden in foods you consume thinking they are harmless. You are exposed to this load even when consuming animal products. You can quickly damage your cell membranes.

Therefore, the fourth habit that can accelerate dementia and damage the brain is the excessive consumption of Omega-6 fatty acids without detailed, personalized assessments. And the answer to why this is important for the brain is DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), a fatty acid that is part of fish oil and is critical for the formation of cell membranes.

One of the most important substances for the structure of a brain cell is fatty acids. But the thing about too much Omega-6 is that it competes with DHA because they are both fatty acids and look similar. And when the brain makes a new cell membrane, if there is too much Omega-6 around, then it will be incorporated into that cell membrane instead of DHA.

Omega-6 and DHA supplementation is entirely individual and the dosage should be adjusted after detailed testing by qualified physicians.

According to our DNA, we’ve been the same for about a quarter of a million years. And yet, in just the last fifty years, we’ve seen an abundance, an explosion, of processed foods and seed oils containing these seed oils. So I’m talking about canola oil, soybean oil, corn oil, and safflower oil, all of which are sold as vegetable oils. And then these are used in processed foods. And restaurants almost exclusively cook their food with these vegetable oils or seed oils.

What happens in the cell membrane during this process is that we obtain rigid and stiff membranes with a very high omega-six/omega-three ratio. So, for all the fats in the cell membranes, including cholesterol and omega-threes, There is a very delicate balance in that cell membrane, establishing the right equilibrium between flexibility and rigidity, so that the right things can be allowed in, the right signals can be sent, and the right signals can be received.

Ultimately, what happens is that we develop difficult-to-treat diseases like Alzheimer’s dementia, meaning we experience an increase in neuroinflammation and also a deterioration of neuronal membranes and communication. See you in the second part.
