A HAPPY MARRIAGE AT A MODEST TABLE

While some people and experiences cause emotions that leave a mark in our lives; It is as if it obscures our awareness of our true ‘Essence’. It’s like looking at the moon when the sun is shining directly overhead.

Before the sun warms the earth and the sea, I breathe in the cool air and think: “Life doesn’t worry about life. Perhaps this was first instilled in us by humans, and then by our own minds.” doing it.

This morning I went for a walk with Uncle Tahir, whom I met a month ago in Gümüşlük, Bodrum. We met at Türkbükü beach and climbed up towards the hills where the villages are located. I met Uncle Tahir’s childhood friends, Mr. Ozan and Mrs. Saadet. We were guests at their humble table. To Mrs. Saadet,

“Uncle Tahir talked all the way about the loving affection you and your husband Ozan have shown in your 50 years of marriage. I wanted to get to know you better. By the way, my late grandmother’s name was also Saadet. Your gaze, your sincere and warm smile remind me of my grandmother,” I said.

Throughout the conversation, I listened to Saadet Hanım and Ozan Bey talk about the strong bond in their marriage, the values that formed this bond, and how these values were reflected in the children they raised. I especially can’t forget this sentence from Saadet Hanım:

“Our family is built on trust, love, and democratic relationships. If a person lacks self-confidence, self-love, and a democratic relationship with themselves, it means they are always missing something in life.”

This morning, I felt incredibly fortunate to have been a guest at Ozan Bey’s and Saadet Hanım’s table and to have met them. I could climb this hill every day, walk for hours, just to repeat this conversation. These were my thoughts on the way back to Türkbükü before my two-day seminar on a Healthy Family Environment for a Healthy Life.

Belief or disbelief, trust or suspicion, positive or negative expectations—these are all natural parts of everyone’s daily emotions and thoughts. Many people believe that luck has turned against them during periods of repeated adversity. Those who tend to shift their responsibilities onto others complain about people’s selfishness and hardheartedness, ignoring their own potential and claiming that there are no honest people left in this world. Many people experience periods in their lives when they feel pushed aside, hindered, and wronged by others. During such times, people become angry and distrustful of those around them. Could this be the root of the underlying feelings of distrust among our youth and young couples? Is there an equal distribution of responsibilities in marriages? Why is happiness decreasing day by day, and why are divorce rates increasing?

Every year, thousands of couples are forced to separate “while still in love” due to emotional reasons. Children and women, who often view the entire family as a source of affection, suffer in many ways.

So, what exactly is it within us that is changing so rapidly?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

With love and respect.
