Welcome to the second part of our series.
Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, which are difficult to treat, are often caused by an increase in neuroinflammation, leading to disruption of neuronal membranes and communication. Below, we will continue to examine the factors that trigger this process.
The fifth bad habit that triggers dementia is always eating something. You know. We’re told to eat at least three times a day with snacks in between. And on top of that, a lot of people walk around with a bag of nuts or a cup of sugary coffee or a soda. So basically they get through the whole day, and these people can experience fifteen or twenty blood sugar and insulin surges throughout the day. And the reason this is important for the brain is related to clearing out waste.
Because in the brain, we have a different cleaning crew than the rest of the body. It’s called the glymphatic system, which is a combination of glial cells and lymphatics. So, in the rest of the body, there’s the lymphatic system to clean things up. But the brain doesn’t have anything like that. It doesn’t have a lymphatic system. It has something called CSF, which is cerebrospinal fluid, and it circulates much less and slower than the body’s lymphatic system. And instead of normal immune cells, it has something called glial cells to help and support brain cells.
However, it is a much more limited cleansing system compared to the rest of the body. And this very valuable cleansing process depends on only two things:
With the correct genetic programming and the correct biochemical values.
However, with flawed meal planning, based on rote, nonsensical calorie calculations and especially diets, far removed from a personalized metabolic approach and scientific basis, this critical cleansing system is completely shut down!
And if we don’t do a proper cleaning inside the cells, we end up with an accumulation of waste products called amyloid-beta (sticky, abnormal protein particles that build up in the brain in neurodegenerative diseases, primarily dementia and Alzheimer’s disease). This is a misfolded protein that forms plaque and is associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
We also have another type of misfolded protein called tau tangles (abnormal, filamentous clumps of tau protein that accumulate inside brain cells—neurons—especially in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease). So what happens? Other metabolic waste products start to accumulate as well.
In fact, the brain has had these ingrained cleansing cycles for hundreds of thousands of years. However, in modern times, we never allow these cleansing cycles to function properly with excessively delicious and even additive-laden snacks. Yet, with scientifically based meal planning designed taking into account personalized genetic readings, you are completely free. You can eat and drink whatever you want, as much as you want, without any worries.
We have people eating nuts and sweets from bowls, vending machines on every corner, and cups to drink from. You need to realize that if you don’t have a scientifically based meal plan designed with individual genetic readings in mind, this is very damaging to the brain!
And this is what will lead to various catastrophic events happening inside the neurons, inside the brain cells. This brings us to the sixth point, which is insufficient sleep.
As you may recall, I previously mentioned the glymphatic system, which is a combination of glial cells and lymphatic system. The glymphatic system is the “brain’s cleaning mechanism,” which uses cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to remove metabolic waste, toxins, and harmful proteins (such as amyloid-beta) from the brain, and is particularly active during deep sleep. It works through AQP4 water channels in astrocytes, removing waste from brain tissue and transferring it to the venous system.
In summary:
We cleanse the extracellular waste products outside of brain cells during deep sleep. Most importantly, deep sleep, when our brain slows down considerably, usually occurs in the early part of the night. Our brain frequencies drop to between 1 and 4 Hertz. While awake, our brain frequencies are in the 20s, late 10s, and even up to 30. Then, when we are very relaxed, like in a meditative state, they can drop to around 10. However, deep sleep is between 1 and 4 Hertz. And it’s a very limited time during the night. But that deep sleep, that low frequency, activates this glymphatic system.
As a result, we gain a significant advantage:
Now we have glial cells (neuroglia). These are the cells that support the basic structure of the brain. These special glial cells, called astrocytes, shrink while we are in deep sleep, allowing for a thorough cleansing of the brain. They shrink by up to sixty percent. And when these astrocytes shrink and all this space is created between the cells, there is a tremendous increase in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). And this is the equivalent of the lymphatic system in the rest of the body.
What it does in an amazing way is to wash away accumulated waste. So imagine a system that first takes place within the cell and cleans out the waste inside. Its absence or malfunction can lead to diseases such as memory loss, dementia, and even schizophrenia.
The seventh thing that can ruin your brain is chronic stress.
The most significant and fundamental factor underlying your exposure to chronic stress is the rapid deterioration of your DNA and biochemical structure, causing you to age faster.
The most significant fatal side effects of chronic stress are rapidly deteriorating DNA and biochemical structures, followed by socio-cultural and psychological impacts, communication breakdowns, anxiety, and fear.
I can’t emphasize enough the issue of chronic stress! People know about it, they feel stressed, they say “I’m so stressed,” they hear it’s a bad thing; but they don’t really understand what it is or what to do about it.
So, when it comes to things that harm the brain, many people quote specific things like, “Negative people harm your brain,” “They shorten your lifespan,” and so on, or negative news. And all of that is true…
But this is true of all negativity, no matter where it comes from. If you can become aware of your own reactions and manage to control them—which is only possible through the reprogramming of damaged DNA and biochemical structure—you can definitively and completely reduce negativity from the outside world forever.
Another significant factor triggering chronic stress is fear; news bulletins bombard us with everything from politics and war to economic crises, keeping us in a constant state of fear. This could be bills or uncertainty about what will happen. We may experience feelings of being overwhelmed, especially if we have too many tasks, too much work to do, too many responsibilities, even deadlines, and never enough time.
There is also the aspect of social isolation to consider.
People in social isolation have more damage, more degeneration, and a thinner cortex in their brains.
All the points I’ve shared with you in this series of articles are critically important. This is because your brain perceives all of these as threats… And this is entirely related to how you feel. But at its core, there are only two types of emotions, two types of excitement. And one makes you feel good, and the other makes you feel bad. Although there are thousands of different labels in life, fundamentally there are only two main states. Something you experience either makes you feel good or really bad.
When you are exposed to chronic stress, quite complex biochemical reactions occur in your body. I won’t go into detail here to avoid boring you, but I definitely want you to know this:
Stress needs to be very short-lived. Prolonged stress slowly leads to death in a way you may never even realize.
However, most of us feel these threats, this stress, twenty-four hours a day. And now, as I’ve mentioned in my previous articles and even seminars, the hippocampus, which is critical for memory, unfortunately has a very high receptor density for cortisol (a key steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands that regulates the body’s response to stress).
Therefore, I repeat this emphatically!
We should only have stress for a short time.
Because during prolonged stress, the hippocampus will suffer the most damage due to its high receptor density. The hippocampus not only converts short-term memories into long-term memory, it is not only active in learning processes, and when its volume decreases, you will not only experience serious memory loss. On the contrary, you will face much more dangerous consequences…
